First Timers Guide to Buying Salon Products

2/22/2024

Hello hello from Patricia at Salon Society! One of the things we recommend the most often for the health of your hair is using salon-quality products, but we know that it can be super intimidating trying to pick out which products you need to start with.

When it comes to buying salon products for the first time, there are a few essentials you'll need. There’s a huge range of benefits that you can see in your hair’s health by using salon products, but today we’re just going to talk about the basics and where to start if you’ve never used quality hair products before!

Firstly, you will want to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner that suits your hair type and its unique needs. Professional products are specially formulated with high-quality ingredients that can provide deep cleansing, nourishment, and hydration to your hair. These formulas can also target specific hair concerns like dryness, frizz, damage, or hair fall. They can help maintain the health and integrity of your hair, leaving it looking and feeling its best. Investing in professional shampoo and conditioner can really make a difference in the overall health and appearance of your hair!

If you’re not sure where to start (no judgement here, there are so many options!), you can always come to the salon and ask for our help! Our stylists and salon coordinators are always more than happy to assist you in finding products that will work for you! However, if you prefer to shop online or just avoid human interaction (we feel you), here are some great options that are good for most hair types.

The next crucial step is finding a heat protectant spray to shield your hair from damage when using styling tools like blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons, and so on. Heat protectant products form a protective barrier on your hair and strands, reducing the amount of heat that is absorbed. This helps to prevent heat damage — dryness, colour damage, breakage and split ends. Every single time you are using heat on your hair it is essential to use a heat protectant spray or serum beforehand to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy and fabulous. Here are a few of our favourites:

Lastly, don't forget to grab some styling products like hairspray or styling cream for that perfect finishing touch. The difference in results that you will see from these is night-and-day to drugstore products. We’re honestly obsessed with quite a few of these… and they absolutely fly off the shelves with our clients who share our obsessions!
