What Is a Long Hair Specialist? Meet Tatum, Your Go-To for Growing & Maintaining Long, Healthy Hair

4/21/2026

Picture
Dreaming of long, healthy, beautiful hair that actually stays long?
That’s exactly where working with a long hair specialist makes all the difference.

At Salon Society, Tatum is our long hair girl through and through. Not only does she specialize in helping guests grow, maintain, and love their long hair, but she’s a long hair girlie herself — so trust us, she gets it.

From the right haircut schedule to damage prevention, product routines, shaping, colour placement, and extensions, a long hair specialist knows that growing gorgeous hair is about so much more than just “not cutting it.”

So… What Is a Long Hair Specialist?

A long hair specialist is a stylist who understands the unique needs of longer lengths and how to keep them healthy over time.

Long hair needs a different kind of care than shorter styles. The ends are older, more fragile, and more prone to dryness, split ends, and breakage. Without the right maintenance, it can feel like your hair “won’t grow,” when really it’s breaking off as fast as it’s growing.

That’s where Tatum comes in.

Her focus is helping you create a plan that keeps your hair:
  • Strong
  • Hydrated
  • Full of shine
  • Growing with minimal breakage
  • Beautifully shaped at every stage
Because yes — healthy hair grows better.

The Truth About Growing Long Hair: Haircuts Matter

One of the biggest myths in the beauty world is that skipping trims helps your hair grow.
In reality? Regular haircuts are key.

A long hair specialist knows exactly how often your hair should be trimmed to remove weak, splitting ends before they travel further up the strand.

Tiny maintenance trims keep your hair:
  • Fuller through the ends
  • Less prone to breakage
  • Healthier overall
  • Looking polished while it grows
The result? Your hair retains length instead of losing it to damage.

Tatum will help set you up with the perfect haircut schedule for your growth goals, so every appointment supports the long hair journey.

You Can Trust Her With Your Length

Long-haired girls know the fear: asking for half an inch off and somehow leaving with two gone.
With Tatum, your length is safe. She’s a true long hair girlie herself, so she gets it.

She understands how important every inch feels when you’re working toward your dream hair goals. That means she will never take off more than what you’re comfortable with, and she’ll always work with your goals in mind. If you’re only ready for half an inch, she’s not taking two.

Her trims are intentional, strategic, and focused on keeping your hair healthy without sacrificing the progress you’ve worked so hard for. It’s all about removing what needs to go while protecting the length you want to keep. That trust is a huge part of successfully growing long, healthy hair.

Want Long Hair but Don’t Have It Yet? No Problem.

Your long hair era does not have to wait.

Tatum is also an extension specialist, which means if you’re dreaming of mermaid-length hair, fuller ends, or that instantly luxe long-hair look, she can make it happen now. She’ll help you choose the right type of extensions for your hair, lifestyle, and goals, whether you’re looking for length, fullness, or both.

From there, she’ll customize the perfect plan with:
  • The best extension method for your hair
  • Seamless colour matching
  • Blending and shaping
  • The right length and density
  • A maintenance schedule that protects your natural hair
The result? The mermaid hair of your dreams right away.

And the best part: while you’re loving the instant gratification of extensions, Tatum is still focused on the long game too — helping you grow your natural hair underneath to match.

With strategic trims, healthy product recommendations, hydration, colour care, and regular maintenance, your natural hair can continue getting longer and stronger while you enjoy the dream hair now.

It’s the perfect way to have your long hair era immediately and long term!

Product Recommendations That Actually Support Hair Growth Goals

If your ends are dry, fragile, or breaking, your homecare routine matters just as much as your salon visits.

Long hair needs:
  • Hydration
  • Strength
  • Heat protection
  • Bond repair
  • Scalp health support
  • Lightweight nourishment that won’t weigh it down

Tatum helps match you with the right professional products for your exact hair needs, so your hair stays full of nutrients, moisture, and strength from root to ends.

And if you wear extensions, the right products become even more important for protecting both your natural hair and your added length. Because long hair can only stay long when it stays healthy.

Keeping Long Hair Looking Good Along the Way

Growing your hair doesn’t mean giving up shape. A huge part of being a long hair specialist is making sure your hair still feels flattering, fresh, and easy to style as it grows.

That can include:
  • Face-framing layers
  • Soft movement
  • Bang maintenance
  • Weight removal
  • Shape adjustments
  • Colour placement that complements long lengths
  • Blending for extensions

Whether you love soft layers, curtain bangs, lived-in movement, blunt healthy ends, or seamless extensions, Tatum helps keep your hair looking beautiful through every phase.

Because the goal isn’t just long hair. It’s long hair you actually love wearing!

Your Long Hair Era Starts Here

Whether your goal is to grow your natural hair to your dream length, maintain the healthy long hair you already have, or get instant mermaid hair with extensions while your natural catches up, Tatum is your girl.

At Salon Society, she’ll help you build a personalized plan for:
  • Growth
  • Strength
  • Trims
  • Shape
  • Extensions
  • Colour care
  • Product support
  • Long-term hair health
Long hair is a journey, and with the right stylist, it becomes so much easier (and prettier).

How to Clean Your Hairbrush (and Why It Actually Matters)

4/13/2026

Picture
Healthy, beautiful hair doesn’t start with your styling products—it starts with your tools. Have you ever looked at your hairbrush and thought… this needs a good clean? You’re not alone. It’s one of the most overlooked habits in hair care. And one of the biggest hidden reasons your hair routine might not be working as well as it should.

At Salon Society, a professional hair salon in Regina, we see it all the time: amazing hair routines held back by one simple thing—dirty brushes. Let’s fix that!

Why You Should Clean Your Hairbrush

Your hairbrush collects way more than you think. Over time, it builds up:
  • Shed hair
  • Natural scalp oils
  • Product residue (dry shampoo, hairspray, serums)
  • Dust and environmental buildup

When you keep using a dirty brush, you’re essentially reintroducing buildup back into your freshly washed hair. That can lead to:
  • Faster oiliness at the roots
  • Weighed-down, dull-looking hair
  • Product not distributing evenly
  • Scalp irritation or sensitivity

Clean brush = cleaner hair results. It’s that simple.

How to Clean Your Hairbrush (Step-by-Step)

You don’t need anything fancy—just a few minutes and some basic supplies.

1. Remove hair first
Use your fingers, a comb, or another brush handle to lift out all the trapped hair. Do this step thoroughly—this is where most buildup hides.

2. Soak the brush
Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and add a small amount of shampoo or gentle soap.
  • For plastic or synthetic brushes: fully submerge
  • For wooden brushes: dip bristles only (don’t soak the base)
Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes.

3. Scrub gently
Use an old toothbrush or small cleaning brush to gently scrub between bristles and remove buildup. Focus on the base where oils and product tend to collect.

4. Rinse well
Rinse with clean water until all soap is gone.

5. Dry properly
Shake off excess water and lay your brush bristle-side down on a towel. Let it air dry completely before using again.

How Often Should You Clean Your Hairbrush?

Here’s the simple rule we recommend at Salon Society:
  • Once a week → ideal for most people
  • Every 2 weeks minimum → if you use minimal product
  • More often (every 3–5 days) → if you use dry shampoo, hairspray, or have oily hair
If you’re styling daily, your brush should be part of your weekly reset routine.

Hot Tip: The more frequently you clean your brush, the easier and faster the process!!

Bonus Tip from the Salon Society Team

If your brush is full of buildup that won’t come out, or the bristles are bent, melted, or missing—it's probably time for a replacement.

A good quality brush (and the right one!) is just as important as your shampoo or conditioner. Think of it as part of your hair health system, not just a styling tool.

The Bottom Line

A clean brush means cleaner hair, better styling results, and a healthier scalp. It’s a small habit that makes a big difference.

And if you’re ever unsure what brush is best for your hair type, your Salon Society stylist is always here to help guide you toward the right tools for your routine!

Ready for Your Best Hair Yet?

If you’re putting in the effort at home, your salon routine should match it too. Healthy, beautiful hair is a combination of the right habits and the right professional care.

Let us help you level up your routine—from the tools you use at home to the results you see in the mirror. Book your visit with the Salon Society team in Regina today and let’s keep your hair looking its absolute best between appointments.

Brazilian Sugaring + BushBalm: The Skin Care Duo That Keeps You Glow-Ready

Hey lovies, let’s talk about a smooth routine you’re actually going to love — Brazilian sugaring paired with the cult‑fave BushBalm skincare line. If silky skin that feels soft, calm, and nourished is your vibe, you’re in the right place.

Sugaring is a go‑to hair removal service we know you book with confidence. And when it comes to post‑care? BushBalm is the line we actually reach for — trusted, naturally derived, and designed to keep your skin happy after body hair removal.

How BushBalm Works With Your Sugaring Routine

After a Brazilian sugaring session, your skin is hair‑free and unbelievably smooth — but it’s still sensitive. That’s where the BushBalm line steps in. BushBalm products are thoughtfully formulated to target common post‑hair‑removal concerns like bumps, redness, ingrown hairs, and dark spots using skin‑kind ingredients that work with your skin, not against it.

What makes this line stand out? BushBalm uses naturally derived oils like jojoba, grapeseed, tea tree, and copaiba — all known for their soothing, hydrating, and calming properties. These ingredients help to reduce irritation and support healthy-looking skin after your Brazilian (or your home shaving routine).

Meet the BushBalm Heroes at Salon Society

At Salon Society, the BushBalm lineup has all the tools you need to elevate your post‑sugaring self‑care: (salonsociety.shop)

• BushBalm Bermuda Dark Spot Oil – A rich treatment oil that helps nourish skin and address uneven tone after hair removal.
• BushBalm Bermuda Dark Spot Exfoliating Scrub – Sugar-based scrub that gently buffs away dead skin and supports smooth texture.
• BushBalm Nude Ingrown Hair 2 Step Routine – A curated set to help prevent and treat ingrown hairs while keeping skin soft.
• BushBalm Berry Crush Ingrown Hair Oil – A hydrating oil packed with nourishing botanicals to help soothe irritation, even after regular use.
• BushBalm Roller Rescue Soothing Serum – With AHA/BHA and aloe, this serum boosts gentle exfoliation and helps improve the look of redness and texture.

…and more skincare solutions for everywhere you want your skin to feel soft and cared for.

Why BushBalm + Sugaring is a Ritual Worth Loving

Here’s the thing — sugaring gives you that silky soft base, and BushBalm keeps it. Consistent post‑sugaring care with these products helps minimize ingrown hairs, protect against irritation, and encourage brighter, smoother skin between sessions.

Using a scrub a few times a week on damp skin helps keep dead skin cells from blocking hair follicles. Adding a treatment oil or serum afterward seals in moisture and calms any sensitivity. Together, these steps make your sugaring results last longer and look even better.
At Salon Society, we are here to elevate not just your in‑chair experience but your at‑home care, too. Brazilian sugaring is smooth, effective, and feels luxe — and BushBalm brings the post‑care love your skin deserves.

Ready to upgrade your routine? Book your Brazilian sugaring session at Salon Society and explore the BushBalm collection at salonsociety.shop to complete your skin care ritual.

Hey Regina! We know you care about healthy hair — and so do we. Behind the scenes at Salon Society, we see too many clients who’ve tried DIY fixes, rushed color, or cutting corners, only to end up with dry, broken, or uneven hair. Let’s talk about why professional technique is the real secret to healthy hair.

Precision = Protection

Professional hair services rely on technique — not just product. Sectioning, product application, timing, and processing are all critical. Mistakes here can lead to breakage, uneven color, and damage that takes months to fix.

At Salon Society, every service is carefully timed and executed to protect your hair while giving you stunning results.

Formulation: A Personalized Science

Your hair isn’t like anyone else’s, so why should your formula be? We take into account:
  • Your hair history (bleach, color, chemical treatments)
  • Your hair texture and density
  • Your hair goals
This ensures long-lasting results and prevents damage, something DIY kits or inexperienced salons often miss.

Long-Term Results Matter

The right technique now saves time, money, and frustration later. Healthy hair holds color longer, resists breakage, and feels amazing — and that’s exactly what we deliver at Salon Society, the best hair salon in Regina.

✨ Don’t wait — book your appointment at Salon Society today and let us give you healthy, gorgeous hair that lasts.

Why Box Dye Is Actually More Expensive in the Long Run

11/13/2025

Hey beautiful humans — it’s your friendly SASO blogger here, and today we’re diving into a topic I see everywhere lately: “How bad is it to box dye my hair??!”

With the cost of literally everything going up in Regina, trust me — I get why the temptation to grab a $20 box looks appealing. But here’s the truth no one puts on the side of that box:

Box dye might be cheap today… but it gets real expensive later.

Let me break down exactly why.

But before we get started… A quick note about Sally Beauty 'Custom Mixing'

Let’s clear something up because we hear it all the time:
“Okay, but if I buy my colour from Sally’s and mix it myself… that’s basically professional, right?”

I love you — but no. Sally Beauty colour is still not professional colour.

Retail dyes are still generic formulas, and without a stylist’s expertise, you risk uneven colour, brassiness, and damage — basically all the same problems as box dye. Additionally, professional colour isn’t just the product, it’s the precision, customization, and timing that make the results predictable and healthy... so lets get into it!!

1. Box Dye Isn’t Custom… and Your Hair Isn’t Generic

Every box dye is pre-formulated for “average” hair — and let’s be honest, no one has average hair. Texture, porosity, previous colour, damage level, natural undertones… these things matter so much when creating a formula.

Salon colour is custom-mixed to your hair’s exact needs vs box dye is one-size-fits-all — and when colour processes unpredictably, you end up needing expensive corrections.

2. The Layers Build Up (And Not in a Cute Way)

Most box dyes use highly pigmented, metallic-based colour so they can “work” on as many hair types as possible. And that pigment? It grabs, stains, and sinks into the hair much deeper than salon colour.

The result:
  • Darker ends
  • Hot roots
  • Banding
  • Patchiness
  • Colour that refuses to lift

And when you finally come in for a blonding or correction? We have to work way harder — and you pay for all that extra time, product, and expertise.

3. Colour Corrections Cost More Than Just a Root Touch-Up

A box dye might cost $20... But a colour correction? It can be a very high price ticket depending on how complex it is.

Most corrections involve:
  • Multiple lightening steps
  • Bond treatments
  • Toning
  • Root adjustments
  • Haircuts
  • Time. So much time.

It’s like trying to erase permanent marker from a whiteboard — it can be done, but it’s not easy.

4. Damage = More Appointments + More Products

Box dye often uses higher levels of ammonia and strong developers, which can dry out and damage the hair. Damaged hair doesn’t hold colour well — meaning it fades faster and needs more maintenance.

Then you end up buying:
  • Masks
  • Serums
  • Bond builders
  • Oils
  • Deep conditioning treatments
  • Heat protectants for the breakage you’re trying to hide

That $20 box suddenly spirals into a cart full of repair products.

5. Your Time Is Worth Something Too

Let’s be honest:

Most box dye jobs don’t end in a salon-quality finish.
  • You spend hours colouring
  • Then hours fixing spots
  • Then hours googling “why are my roots orange”
  • Then hours scrolling local groups asking for help
  • And then… you book a salon appointment anyway

And time is money, my loves.

6. Once You Box Dye, Your Options Shrink

Want to go blonde later?
Try a cool brunette?
Add dimension with some foils?

Box dye can make all of that harder, riskier, and more expensive. We can absolutely still get you there — we’ve got you! — but the journey becomes longer and pricier.

So, What’s the Better Alternative?

If budget is tight (and that’s real right now!), talk to us.

At Salon Society, we’re more than happy to chat about:
  • Low-maintenance colour options
  • Stretching out appointments
  • Healthy grow-out strategies
  • Glazes or toners to refresh without the cost of a full service
  • Booking with juniors + apprentices for amazing results at a lower price

We’re here to work with you — not against your wallet.

Your hair deserves the good stuff — and we’re always here to help you figure out the best plan for your budget, your lifestyle, and your long-term goals. Ready to get started? Book for a free consultation today!

7 Tips To Keep Your Extensions Looking Their Best

1/13/2025

Picture
Hair extensions are a major game-changer for adding length, volume, and thickness to your hair. To keep them looking gorgeous and lasting as long as possible, proper care is essential. While there are differences in care instructions for different types of extensions, some care tips are universal. With the right routine and high-quality products you can extend the life of your extensions and care for your natural hair.

1. Never Sleep on Wet Hair
Wet hair is more prone to tangling and breakage, which can compromise both your natural hair and your extensions. Before bed, gently detangle your hair and secure it in a protective style, such as a loose braid, to prevent tangles. A sleep bonnet or satin pillowcase will also help to reduce friction and keep your extensions smooth.

Pro Tip: Always dry your hair before bed and secure it in a protective style, such as a loose braid or ponytail, to prevent tangles. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase minimizes friction, keeping your extensions smooth and secure.

2. Brush Regularly (and Gently)
Brushing is essential to prevent tangles, especially near the roots. However, extensions require special care to avoid damaging the bonds.
  • Use a detangle brush designed for extensions.
  • Start at the ends and gently work your way up. Hold your hair near the root to reduce tension on the bonds or wefts.
Brushing twice daily—morning and night—is recommended to keep your extensions looking polished.

3. Wash with Care
Over-washing you extensions can lead to dryness and breakage, so aim for every 2–3 days. When you do wash, follow these steps:
  • Use lukewarm water to avoid weakening adhesives or expanding nano rings.
  • Gently massage shampoo into scalp and let it flow through your extensions. Avoid scrubbing or harsh movements.
  • Focus conditioner, like Kerastase Fondant Extensioniste, on the mid-lengths and ends to hydrate without causing slipping or adhesive breakdown.
Rinse thoroughly to remove all product and avoid buildup.

4. Hydrate Weekly
Hair extensions don’t receive natural oils from your scalp, so keeping them hydrated is crucial.
  • Use a nourishing mask like Kerastase Masque Extensioniste once a week to replenish moisture.
  • Apply sparingly to avoid product buildup, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends.

5. Protect from Heat
Stylists are always preaching the importance of heat protection and for good reason! Hot tools like flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers can damage both your extensions and natural hair.
  • Always apply a heat protectant, such as Kerastase Discipline Thermique, before using heat tools.
  • Use a low to medium heat setting, and avoid direct heat on the bonds or attachment points.

6. Protect During Swimming
Chlorine and saltwater can dry out extensions and weaken bonds. Before swimming:
  • Wet your hair with fresh water.
  • Apply a leave-in conditioner to create a barrier.
  • Style in a braid or other protective style.
  • Wear a swim cap for maximum protection.
After swimming, rinse thoroughly and apply a hydrating treatment.

7. Schedule Regular Salon Visits
Professional maintenance is essential for keeping your extensions secure and looking fresh. During these appointments, your stylist can check the bonds and make necessary adjustments. Maintenance schedules vary depending on extension type, make sure to ask your stylist when you should be coming back and prebook!

Hair extensions are an investment in your beauty, and proper care will keep them looking flawless for weeks or even months. With daily maintenance, the right products, and professional upkeep, you can enjoy long-lasting, gorgeous extensions while protecting your natural hair.
If you’re unsure about specific care techniques, don’t hesitate to consult your stylist for personalized advice. A little extra effort goes a long way in keeping your extensions as beautiful as the day they were installed!

How to Layer Products

1/7/2025

Picture
Layering hair products can transform your hair care routine, delivering optimal results for healthier, shinier, and more manageable locks. However, knowing the right order and combinations is key to avoiding product buildup or counterproductive effects. Here are some expert tips and tricks from Salon Society to help you master the art of product layering for your best hair yet.

why layering matters.

Each hair product serves a specific purpose, whether it’s cleansing, hydrating, protecting, or styling. By layering them correctly, you ensure that each product performs as intended, enhancing the overall health and appearance of your hair. Proper layering also prevents weighing your hair down or causing residue buildup.

The Golden Rule of Layering: Always layer products from the lightest to the heaviest consistency. Lightweight products, such as sprays and serums, should go first to penetrate the hair shaft, followed by creams and oils that seal and protect.

step-by-step guide to layering hair products.

1. Precleanse and Double Shampoo
For the best cleanse, start with a precleanse or double shampoo routine to remove buildup and prepare your hair for treatments. This is especially important if you use styling products frequently or have an oily scalp.
  • Precleanse: Use Kérastase Chronologiste Pré-Cleanse Régénérant to deeply cleanse the scalp and remove impurities, ensuring a fresh foundation for your hair care routine.
  • Double Shampoo: Begin with a gentle shampoo for cleansing, followed by a targeted shampoo tailored to your hair’s needs. For instance, follow Kérastase Bain Vital Dermo-Calm with Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin Shampoo for hydration.

2. Condition
Follow up with a conditioner or a deeply nourishing masque that addresses your hair’s specific concerns:
  • Conditioner: Use Kérastase Elixir Ultime Fondant for intense hydration and detangling.
  • Alternative: Opt for the Kérastase Chronologiste Masque Intense Régénérant as a luxurious alternative to conditioner. This masque provides deep nourishment, strengthens the hair fiber, and leaves your hair feeling silky and revitalized.

3. Prep with a Leave-In Treatment
After towel-drying your hair, apply a leave-in treatment to provide hydration and prepare your hair for styling. Some favorites include:
  • K18 Leave-In Repair Mask for repairing and strengthening damaged hair.
  • Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Serum for promoting healthier hair growth.

You can layer leave-in products for maximum benefits: apply a scalp-focused serum, such as  Initialiste , to nourish and strengthen at the roots, and follow with a length-focused leave-in, like K18, to hydrate and protect your strands.

4. Detangle
Use a detangling spray or serum to gently remove knots and reduce breakage. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid damaging your strands. Some great options include:
  • Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime Anti-Frizz Spray to smooth and detangle unruly hair.
  • Kérastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique for added nourishment and manageability.

Helpful Detangling Tips: Make sure to use a wide-tooth comb or detangle brush, be gentle, work in sections, and begin detangling from the ends and gradually move up towards the roots to avoid damage.

5. Protect
Always use a heat protectant before styling with hot tools. This step is non-negotiable to prevent damage from high temperatures. Try:
  • Kérastase Ciment Thermique for repairing and protecting fragile hair.
  • Kérastase Discipline Keratine Thermique for taming frizz and providing heat protection.

6. Style
Now it’s time to layer on your styling products:
  • Volumizer or Mousse: Apply at the roots for lift and volume.
  • Curl Cream or Gel: Work through the mid-lengths and ends for defined curls or waves.
  • Smoothing Serum or Oil: Use sparingly on the ends to add shine and tame flyaways. We love Kérastase Elixir Ultime Oil for its lightweight yet luxurious finish.

7. Finish
Seal your look with a finishing spray:
  • Hairspray: To lock in your style and provide long-lasting hold.
  • Texture Spray: For a tousled, lived-in look.
  • Shine Spray: For a polished finish.

common mistakes to avoid.

  1. Skipping Heat Protection: Never style without a heat protectant.
  2. Overloading Products: Too many heavy products can weigh your hair down.
  3. Applying Out of Order: Follow the light-to-heavy rule for best results.
  4. Ignoring Your Hair Type: Choose products specifically designed for your hair’s unique needs.

hot tip: consult with the experts.

6/21/2023

Hello! Stefan here from Salon Society. I have been a hairstylist for 16 years and am one of the two SASO stylists that offer the European Blowout. The European Blowout is a luxury experience which results in an iconic, voluminous, silky finish. Today I am going to spill some of my European Blowout secrets andtell you about the superstar products that make this blowout result so stunning.

The European Blowout is completed using our fave European product line Kerastase Paris. I first started my training with Kérastase Paris in 2011, I absolutely fell in love with the products, became a certified Kérastase specialist, and have been using them ever since!

The foundation to a fabulous blowout is always understanding the hair type I am working with and pairing technique + products to reach the desired soft, shiny, and bouncy result.

These are the best products to achieve these results:

A proper foundation starts with clean and hydrated hair. This Kerastase shampoo is fortified with conditioning polymers that enhance nutrition to fragile areas and optimize shine.

Kérastase Fusio-Dose Treatment

Fusio-dose treatments are an in salon treatment for dry hair that lacks luster and moisture. With up to 30 unique combinations, the Fusio Dose in-salon treatments instantly transform your hair. Composed of two parts, a concentre and a booster, Fusio Dose treatments are performed by trained Kerastase stylists to help you address your main hair concerns and are formulated based on your hair goals! The results are instant and last for at least 5 washes.

Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique

This product is a thermo activated resurfacing reconstructive milk that strengthens the fibre from the inside and re-creates the outer protective layer - so you get heat protection and a silky smooth finish.

Kérastase Chronologiste Huile de Parfum

And finally finishing the look with the Chronologiste Huile de Parfum. This nourishing oil reduces breakage, provides strength, and adds shine. Finishing your styling with a nourishing oil is a great way to manage frizz and static and keep a sleek finish.

8 Steps to Better Curls

3/20/2023

Hello curly people! It's me, Advanced Master Stylist & Curl Specialist, Aaron Brousseau writing today to chat about natural curls. As a person with curly hair, I completely understand how frustrating it can be trying to make those damn curls do what you want them to! But never fear - today I am going to share my 8 Steps to Better Curls: Curly Hair Routine.

This curly routine is only 8 steps and it really makes a world of difference in getting the most bounce and definition out of your natural texture. The key equation to remember is that Hydration + Structure = Flawless Curls.

HYDRATING SHAMPOO + CONDITIONER

Starting with hydrating shampoo and conditioner is super important. My top pick is Kerastase Curl Manifesto shampoo and conditioner, they're lightweight but suuuuper hydrating and smell divine.

SOAKING STYLING

On soaking wet hair, apply Oribe Curl Gloss for ultimate hydration, shine, hold and protection from humidity, then follow with Oribe's Curl Gelée by smoothing it through your curls.

SCRUNCH + TWIST

Scrunch your hair to maximize bounce then twist out a few pieces to add definition and detail.

SQUEEZE

Now squeeze some of the excess moisture out with a microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt (regular towels will cause frizz!), then add a few good dollops of your favourite Curl/Volume mousse! I would recommend trying Oribe's Curl Shaping Mousse or Grandiose Plumping Mousse (I actually love layering the two for a stunning curl volume cocktail ?). Flip your head over and give it one last scrunch.

HOVER

Now, with a diffuser on your blow dryer, heat on high and speed medium, I want you to HOVER!! Do NOT touch the curls until they're almost fully dry! I like to do around 5-7 minutes with my head flipped forward then repeat, flipping the hair to each side, then again on the back. The goal here is to focus most of the airflow at the roots.

DIFFUSE TO DRY

When the hair has formed a bit of a "cast" and the curls are feeling stiff and mostly dry, turn the heat down to low and speed to medium/low. Starting at the ends, start pushing the diffuser up to the scalp, kind of like an accordion!

ADD VOLUME

Once the hair is 10000% DRY the structure will be locked in. You can now work on adding volume by spraying a lightweight texture spray like Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and use a pick to add lift at the roots!

FINAL TOUCH

Finish off by scrunching in your favourite oil for shine, moisture, and protection. Some of my faves are Kerastase Curl Manifesto Huile Sublime, Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil for Colour-Treated Hair, Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil, and Kevin Murphy Young Again Oil!

As a Curl Specialist, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the fresh confidence my clients gain by learning the best tricks and tips for their natural curls. Every person's hair is unique and you may have to experiment to find the routine and product combo that is best for you - but I hope my 8 Steps to Better Curls helps you find the way to yours!

I would super encourage every single person with curls to book a Curly Cut or a Cadō Cut with me or one of my fellow Curl Specialists at Salon Society - we love helping our clients get the most out of their curls with the right cut and routine.
